SUMMER 2012

Is it just me or is the weather really scorching here in the Philippines? Summer has officially started and I am not as excited as I was in the previous years. Why? Because...

  1. I have work
  2. Even if I didn't have work or if I'm off duty, I am low on budget. (Hello, volunteer nurse here! *points to self*)
  3. Even if I had the money, my boyfriend is still in Cali, there's no one else I want to spend my vacation with.
Poor me, I'm stuck in this burning place called home, not even a full blast AC can solve the heat. Oh well, enough self-pity, since summer's here, might as well blog about something helpful.

Y'all probably know these already but I'm still posting, just in case you forget (or just for the sake of blogging, lol).

My perspective: SUMMER DOs and DONTs:

1. Hydrate. Not only can it keep you from being dehydrated from the warm summer heat, but it also helps make your skin glow instead of burning it. It doesn't necessarily have to be water; fresh fruit juices/shakes can provide you the extra vitamins you need.

2. Sunscreen is your new best friend. You should never leave home without using it unless you want major skin damage. Tip: Choose a sunscreen that gives you adequate wide spectrum protection. The sun's rays have both UVA (causes tanning) and UVB (causes sun burns and even skin cancer) radiation. Most brands only carry an "SPF" tag which only protects you from sun burns but not from tanning. Do not go cheap on your skin, invest on a sunscreen that would give you adequate protection.

3. Take cover. Personally, I don't want to bring an umbrella around with me, so I try to schedule all my outdoor activities after 4pm, when the sun is not on its shiniest.  But when you really have to leave earlier, it's best to bring an umbrella or a wide-brimmed hat which is definitely a summer must-have.

4. Dress right. Time to put your leather jackets and baggy sweaters at the back of your closet and pile on more breezy summer clothing. You don't have to compromise fashion for comfort especially if it is this hot. The 2012 S/S collections are very promising; outfit inspirations are expected to come from those. This season's collections are taking it to the extremes: from dainty details on pastel colors to crazy techno prints on bright hues. Denim shorts are definitely a must have, but you should also try experimenting with maxi skirts and summer dresses. Don't forget your tote bag and sunnies, too!

5. Be bikini-ready. Summer is mostly all about beach getaways (or in my case, a trip to the bath tub), and  the most fashionable expression of your personality is through your bikinis. So choose wisely! It doesn't mean that if it looks good on the model/mannequin, it would look good on you. Research for different styles that would flatter your body shape. Not everyone can rock a two-piece, that's why monokinis are made. And mind you, the monokinis now aren't the same ruffled one-piece swimsuit that our parents let us wear before, they look more chic and sophisticated nowadays (think of Anne Curtis' cutout monokini in the movie No Other Woman). And what's the best complement to a bikini? A clean and sexy body, of course! Okay, not everyone has the curves, but at least be hair-free, right? Never ever sport a bikini without shaving. It's wrong on all levels! If you can't do it yourself, consult an expert.

6. Have fun! It's summer, need I say more?
